A Day at Disney World: A Magical Day Without Theme Parks

Our final Disney World day was pure magic outside the parks! From horseback riding at Fort Wilderness to brunch with Mickey at Riviera Resort, mini-golf at Fantasia Gardens, and Easter egg displays at Grand Floridian, we made memories with family—feeling Julie’s spirit with us all day.

Our last day in Disney World was bittersweet, and while we didn't step foot in any theme parks, it was filled with just as much magic, laughter, and memories. Waking up at our cozy hotel in Old Key West, we packed up knowing we’d be heading home that night, but we still had a full day ahead.

We began our morning at Fort Wilderness, where we set out for a peaceful horseback riding trail ride. The ride through the natural beauty of the wilderness was a perfect way to start the day. I had the pleasure of riding Trooper, a bay horse with a calm demeanor. Mia was on Percy, a gentle gray horse, while James was accompanied by Wrangler, another bay horse, and Csilla rode Dexter, a spirited chestnut. It was clear we were all in tune with our horses, and we felt a quiet sense of connection as we walked through the scenic trails. We even managed to keep our horses from snacking along the way, a challenge that many fellow riders were not as successful at!

After the ride, we visited the Tri Circle D Ranch, where we got to meet the famous carriage horses and ponies. The ranch had a peaceful, rustic vibe, and we loved getting to learn more about the horses that play such an important role in the Disney experience.

Next, we headed to the stunning Riviera Resort for a delightful brunch at Topolino’s Terrace. The real highlight here wasn’t just the delicious food (although it was amazing), but the chance to dine with Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, and Donald. Each character had unique costumes, which added a delightful twist to the experience. Mickey was dressed as a painter, Minnie as a poet, Daisy as a dancer, and Donald as a sculptor. Their interactions were so personal and engaging, making us feel like we were part of the show.

After brunch, we wanted to keep the fun going, so we made our way to the Fantasia Gardens mini-golf course. It was a lighthearted round of golf where we enjoyed some friendly competition. Whether we were putting around whimsical statues or trying to navigate tricky water features, we couldn’t help but laugh and enjoy every moment.

Our final stop was the Grand Floridian Resort, where we were in awe of the amazing Easter egg displays. These intricate works of art, created from chocolate and other edible materials, were a feast for the eyes. It was the perfect way to wind down the day before heading out. Just as we reached our car, the skies opened up, and a thunderstorm began. Luckily, we had wrapped up our adventures in time to head to the airport.

As I reflect on this day, I realize how special it was to be surrounded by family and friends, creating lasting memories. Of course, there was an empty space in our hearts, and we couldn't help but think of my sister, Julie, who passed away just three months ago. She was with us in spirit, and as we celebrated the magic of Disney, we knew she was right there beside us in every laugh and every joyful moment.

This trip, with all its adventures, laughter, and memories, was a beautiful chapter in our family’s story. Though we didn’t visit a theme park, we saw that the true magic of Disney lies not only in the rides but in the experiences we share with the people we love. Until next time, Disney World. You’ll always hold a special place in our hearts.
