Bimini, Bahamas to Walt Disney World - March 2025

We went to Bimini and Walt Disney World

Departure Day: From San Francisco to Bimini, Bahamas!

The day has finally arrived! After weeks of planning, packing, and excitement building, it’s time to head out on our much-anticipated journey. We’re leaving the cool, foggy air of San Francisco behind and catching a flight to sunny Fort Lauderdale, before hopping on another to the dreamy Bimini Islands in the Bahamas. The thought of palm trees, turquoise waters, and warm, golden sunsets is enough to make any traveler’s heart skip a beat!

This morning, as I triple-checked my bag (of course I forgot sunscreen the first time), I couldn’t help but smile. The thrill of departure is always so special—there’s something about the promise of new adventures, new places, and new experiences. Plus, who can resist the magic of airports? The buzzing energy of travelers heading out on their own journeys, all carrying a shared excitement for what’s to come.

As we head to Fort Lauderdale, I’m already daydreaming about Bimini, that tiny, magical gem of an island. There’s so much to love about this destination, and it’s a place I’ve been eager to explore for a long time.

Here are some cute facts about Bimini that make it even more special:

  1. Bimini is the birthplace of the Hemingway Rum Runner: Ernest Hemingway spent a lot of time in the Bahamas, especially in Bimini. Legend has it that the famous writer was inspired to create the classic "Rum Runner" cocktail here, so you can trace his footsteps while sipping a drink in his honor at one of the local bars!
  2. Bimini is a hub for pink sand beaches: While you’ll find plenty of beautiful white sand beaches around the world, Bimini’s unique pink sand beaches are a bit of a treasure. The color comes from the tiny shells that line the shore, making the sands shimmer with a soft, rosy glow. A perfect spot to snap that quintessential beach photo!
  3. The Bimini Road mystery: If you're into legends, you’ll love Bimini’s famous “Bimini Road,” an underwater rock formation that some believe could be a remnant of the lost city of Atlantis. Whether it’s a natural wonder or a piece of ancient history, it’s definitely one of the island’s biggest mysteries!
  4. The Blue Hole: Bimini is home to one of the world’s most famous Blue Holes—a mysterious underwater sinkhole that’s a haven for divers. It’s not only a spectacular sight but also a must-do adventure for anyone visiting the area.
  5. A unique island charm: Bimini’s motto is "One Island, One Love," and the locals truly embody that spirit. With a population of just over 2,000 people, this place has a close-knit community that welcomes visitors with open arms. I can’t wait to experience the warmth of the island’s hospitality.

We’re about to board our flight to Fort Lauderdale, and I’m already imagining the feeling of the Bahamian sun on my skin, the soft waves lapping against the shore, and the laid-back vibe that comes with being in a place so full of charm and history.

Stay tuned for more updates from Bimini, as I can’t wait to share every beautiful moment of this trip with you all! It’s time to trade the fog for sunshine. Let the adventure begin!
